A 6 year old boy, Mohamad, pulls on his oversized tomato red shorts up around his tiny waist, places a tarpaulin sheet over his head to shelter from the rain and runs barefoot towards the edge of his water logged and muddy village. There he waits for his classroom to arrive - a boat. Like a scene from 'Waterworld' in which continents are submerged after polar ice caps have melted.
The story depicts a modern day Noahs ark fighting global warming. The US (one of the chief contributors) could cut down on air conditioning usage or relied more on mass transit to help the global situation. In Bangladesh global warming means that children like Mohamad Achan are going to school in modern day arks, he and his parents have made little contribution to climate change as they have neither a car nor electricity. It is families like this that suffer the consequences of increasing voilent storms and deadly cyclons that sciencetists have attributed to global warming.
